Harris Antelope Squirrel
White Tank Regional Park : (Ammospermophilus harrisii)The little Harris' antelope squirrel is often mistaken for a chipmunk, but is a creature of the rocky deserts. It has a white stripe on its side, not on its face, and a bushy black tail that it carries arched over the back. The underbelly is white. Met this fellow on the Waterfall Trail. We heard a hawk cry. He turned and stood on his hind legs but just kept eating. Must have been a real tasty cactus fruit!
